Chinese funding for railways to exceed ¥800B yuan in 2014

China recently announced its plans to boost annual railway investment spending to ¥800 billion yuan ($128 billion) this year. This announcement marks the third increase this year in the agency’s spending target since the release of its initial fixed asset investment plan of ¥630 billion yuan in January. The whopping ¥800 billion yuan railway expenditure plan would bring nearly 7,000 km of new railway line into operation this year, and China has also set its sights on railway expansion abroad. From underwater railway tunnels to Taiwan to its latest agreements to finance development of railway lines in East Africa, China’s global railway network possibilities seems limitless.
