In line with Movenpick Hotels&Resorts’ philosophy to contribute to a positive future, the Movenpick Ibn Battuta Gate Hotel in Dubai, U.A.E., identifies and promotes environmentally-friendly strategies. This upscale property impresses with a firm commitment to continuously improve sustainability performance – social and environmental values have been placed at the center of all actions, which were recently awarded Green Globe re-certification.
“Our entire team has adopted the Green Globe standards as part of our sustainability policy, in order to take proactive measures to address global environmental issues,” said Michael Nugent, General Manager at the Movenpick Ibn Battuta Gate Dubai. “The ‘Going Green’ philosophy has become deeply rooted in our corporate standards and reflects in everything that we do.”
Over the course of a year, the Movenpick Ibn Battuta Gate has engaged in a number of CSR activities. The hotel took part in the ‘Adopt a Camp’ initiative in 2012, collecting over 8,000 toothbrushes and toothpastes for over 5,000 laborers working in Dubai. In October 2012 and February of this year, 43 staff members participated in a blood donation drive, collectively donating 21,000 ml of blood to help children with the Thalasemia disorder. The Movenpick Ibn Battuta Gate team put on their running shoes to support charitable events, such as the ‘Beat Diabetes’ walkathon, the 10 km ‘Standards Chartered Marathon’, and ‘Roadrunner’, which all took place in Dubai.
In November last year the hotel joined the ‘Union Tree Initiative’, launched by his Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, and Ruler of Dubai, to highlight the spirit of the Union as part of the 41st National Day celebrations. General Manager Michael Nugent planted a ‘Union Tree’ in the hotel courtyard, in presence of head of departments, to support this meaningful initiative, which is aimed at consolidating the spirit of the union and the love for the country. Staff members were encouraged to plant a ‘Union Tree’ in their gardens, demonstrating a sense of loyalty and belonging toward the UAE, and provide their care and love stemming from their gratitude as well as environmental awareness.
